Launch of EmPulse, an innovative online management tool

An innovative management tool that allows companies to monitor how engaged their employees are with the business will have its official launch today. EmPulse is a tool that offers firms regular feedback from their staff.

Nigel Sillitoe, CEO of Insight Discovery, the employee engagement specialists, said that EmPulse can be used to gather vital intelligence about the views and opinions of employees, allowing management to monitor the success of new initiatives and change, as well as the opinions of staff about their specific roles within their workplace.

"EmPulse enables management and human resource departments to understand the thoughts and feelings of their employees in real time," he said. "By engaging with their staff through EmPulse, companies can become aware of - and help to stop - problems from escalating at an early stage".

Insight Discovery collates and analyses the views of employees of each company that joins the EmPulse service. All opinions and views are completely confidential, meaning staff can be totally honest in their feedback.

“Genuinely honest and reliable employee feedback is a valuable management tool, but is surprisingly rarely available to managers,” continued Sillitoe.

EmPulse allows four questions to be put to employees every month; the fourth question is always: "How satisfied are you in your current role?" EmPulse can be used to gather different types of information such as recognising star performers, and benchmarking employee satisfaction scores.

During the last three months of a soft launch of the service EmPulse has been used successfully by existing clients of Insight Discovery.

Questions included in the survey can be tailored to the specific requirements of subscribing companies. During the soft launch typical questions included: "Do you know what is expected of you at work?"; "Do you have the materials and equipment you need to do your work right?"; "At work, do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day?"; and an optional "Who is employee of the quarter?".

The survey results are reported monthly and employees can access the survey online either from the office, or at home. It is also compatible for use on smart phones, such as Blackberry or iPhone.

"The monthly EmPulse survey takes less than one minute to complete, and because it can be accessed easily and quickly it offers corporations the ideal channel to receive regular feedback from their employees," Sillitoe said. "Because all information gathered is confidential this helps to boost the employee response rate.”

He added that the expected response rate should be over 75% and noted that the response rate attained during the soft launch averaged over 80%.

Companies of any size and from any industry can subscribe to EmPulse for as little as USD 500 per month which makes it as accessible to small and medium sized companies as it does to multi-national conglomerates. Sillitoe said: "EmPulse could also appeal to a division such as Sales and Marketing, especially if the sales team is in many different locations and the Sales Director only has the opportunity to meet colleagues irregularly."

"There's a segment in the private sector where companies have fewer than 500 employees that don't engage with their employees strategically," he said. "This can happen for several reasons, but the main one is the cost involved for a small company to pay for an annual employee engagement survey. EmPulse offers these companies an affordable route to gain valuable insight into their staff engagement."

With a population of 73+ million, 60% of the population under the age of 35, approx. 450,000 students graduating from around 150 universities and other higher education institutions in 2009, 30+ million internet users and an increase of 169% in GDP between 2002 and 2009, Turkey is a prime market for companies to adopt a strategic approach to their employer branding.

Employer Brand International was honored to be hosted by Sabanci University and Dinamo Training & Consulting to share global best practice in Employer Branding and Generation Y with Turkish leaders last month. EBI Chairman/CEO Brett Minchington delivered a masterclass event with Evrim Kuran, Director of Dinamo to around 100 senior and executive managers. Top employer Global Bilgi also shared their employer brand journey which I'm sure will inspire many more countries in Turkey to adopt a strategic approach to employer branding. Babies no bonus in career planning PDF Print E-mail

A recently released survey has found most women believe falling pregnant will hurt their career progression.

The research by employment agency CareerOne in Australia revealed almost two thirds of female respondents thought becoming pregnant would have a negative impact on their career, while three quarters believed it was difficult to be in a highly paid executive role and raise a family.

In other findings, more than half the women surveyed said they wished they had a mentor compared to only 29 percent of men.

CareerOne’s Kate Southam said the results were a message for employers who did not value family friendly policies, urging them to do more.

“Some of Australia’s biggest employers are striving for that female-friendly tag yet the perception amongst employees is that parenting is career poison for women,” Ms Southam said.

“Employers also need to look at their workplace culture to ensure it is not biased towards male success.

“Nearly half our female respondents believed they were passed over for promotion because of their gender.

“That might not be the case but perception is everything when it comes to developing a strong employer brand.”
